The problem
Heritage fabric is frequently recorded only after it has been damaged, and then only from photographs taken for other purposes.
What we do
Non-contact capture produces a dimensionally accurate record of surfaces, profiles and condition, suitable for conservation planning, archive and comparison against future scans.
Suitable applications
- Condition recording before intervention
- Conservation and repair planning
- Archival records of at-risk fabric
- Monitoring of movement and deterioration
Process
Project discovery
We establish the site, required accuracy, intended use, safety constraints and deliverable.
Capture planning
Methodology, scan-position density, site-access plan, control requirements and data management are agreed in writing.
Capture
Field capture follows the agreed site and safety procedures, with coverage checked before demobilisation.
Processing and quality control
Registration, cleaning and verification are completed with residuals recorded rather than assumed.
Delivery and support
Deliverables are issued in the agreed formats with clear file organisation and technical support.
Deliverables
- Registered point cloud
- Measured drawings
- Archive mesh
- Condition record
Supported formats
Final formats are agreed according to project requirements, client software and intended use. We confirm support for a format after testing it against your software.
Accuracy considerations
Capture is non-contact and does not require scaffolding or physical access to the fabric. Surfaces not visible from an accessible scan position cannot be recorded.
Project-specific accuracy and methodology are confirmed during scope development. We do not publish a universal accuracy figure, because a single number cannot hold true across every site condition.
